Freecash: Is it really?
Probably the most advertised money-making app, at least from what I’ve seen, but it is actually any good? Well, I have to say, I wasn’t too impressed with the overall feel and look of the app when I first downloaded it. Even the name it’s self “Freecash” feels very sketchy. When I had initially downloaded it I spent a week trying to figure out how exactly to start earning and I was not getting the same fast results I did with apps I’ve previously reviewed. Eventually I got so frustrated I dropped it altogether to find a different app. It wasn’t until I decided to write a review and realized I didn’t give it a fair chance did I come back to Freecash and figured out the trick. Ironically, it’s the same trick I’ve learned from the other apps, which is to go all in on the puzzle games (specifically the word games) and look up the answers online. Finally, I was earning at a rate on par with apps such as Scrambly, but I was still having some issues, which I’ll get in to now.
Freecash…kind of lies to you…but not really….but kinda. When you scroll through their catalog of games, like other similar apps, it simply lists the title, it’s app store rating, and how much you can possibly earn from playing. However, clicking on one May give you a whole list on a variety of ways you can earn that cash. For some you can only earn by progressing through a game, others may want you to spend money to make money, especially if it’s a gambling app. Freecash has something on almost all of their games called “Play Rewards” which is similar to hiring level goals…except it does not tell how long it will take for you to hit that goal. According to Freecash, to earn from the “Play Rewards” section, “The more you play and interact with pop ups, the faster the bar will fill!”, which reading between the lines means a combination of progressing the game, watching ads, and possibly spending money on the game is the way to earn. And of course, surprise, surprise, this section is where most of the cash pool is. So if you see a game you think you would like and Freecash says, “if you play this one you could earn $400!”, you click it and see you only have to play up to level 50, but wait, only $100 is accounted for, for those rewards, because the rest has been distributed to the “Play Rewards” section, making it less of a guarantee you’ll get anywhere close to earning $400 on this game. This is my main gripe with Freecash, it seems unfair to dangling earnings in front of you like that just so you spend more time and money on a game, but from a business perspective it makes sense.
My one other issue with Freecash is the time it takes for earnings to actually hit your account. With Mistplay and Scrambly, both apps made it possible to withdrawal earnings straight away, which I suppose I was a bit spoiled by, because my goodness it takes forever on Freecash! When you hit lower level goals your earnings will go straight to your account, but on higher level goals, basically anything over $5, it’s put on a hold of between a day or even 2 weeks! It’s a little ridiculous to wait that long for $20 and what if you need that money right away? I’m not sure if this is just because of the amount of because my account is relatively new, but it’s very annoying to see that number at the top of my screen, clicking on it, and seeing only 1/4 of that is actually available for me to withdrawal.
Freecash also has an interesting lottery system in place, though I personally have never gotten anything out of it. As you earn cash you also passively earn tickets to be entered into an app wide lottery with cash prizes or just going into the app every day and being given a random amount. Of course, due to the fact the more cash you’ve earned the more tickets you have, those who are the highest earners on the app are also much more likely to win these lotteries since they will also have the most tickets. But this is just a fun extra part of Freecash and makes earning a little more interesting.
Overall, I think Freecash is pretty comparable to most money earning apps with a few flaws that can be overlooked if you have to patience to get past them. They have a larger prize pool for most of their games because of their “Play Rewards” section which, while a negative for me personally, could be positive for someone else. You can even earn bonus cash for completing some goals within a set time frame, though whether that’s an option varies from game to game. They also have a large variety of games available, though they only show you about 20 at a time before rotating them every few hours. In a little less than 2 months I was able to earn $190, though only $175 of it is withdraw-able, so on par with other app I’ve tried. When it comes to withdrawing you must first upload a picture of your ID and a selfie to verify your identity. After verification your options for withdrawal are a few gift card options such as Apple, Amazon, Visa, or Google Play, and banking options such a as Paypal, Venmo, and direct deposit to your bank account. If the issues I’ve listed here haven’t deterred you from giving it a try, then I say go for it, you’ll probably be able to make some cash with it. I’m going to give Freecash a 3.5/5, better than Mistplay, but
Scrambly remain as my top earning app.
